This pattern can result from interactive processes that we teased apart using appropriate simulation approaches. We demonstrated that intraspecific (genetic) diversity follows a spatial pattern (downstream increase in diversity) that is repeatable across taxa (from plants to vertebrates) and river systems. We conducted empirical works on temperate permanent rivers from southern France, and we broadened the scope of our findings using experiments, meta-analyses, and simulations. Over the last 10 years, our group used a holistic approach to contribute to this knowledge by focusing on the causes and consequences of intraspecific diversity in rivers. Rivers are fascinating ecosystems in which the eco-evolutionary dynamics of organisms are constrained by particular features, and biologists have developed a wealth of knowledge about freshwater biodiversity patterns.

The teacher kills the janitor, who with his dying breath imbues Harper with the sacred abilities and responsibility of the Paladin. On the night of the Homecoming Dance, Harper repairs to the ladies room to apply some last minute lipstick before her name is called for Homecoming Queen (of course!) She is interrupted by the school janitor and one of her teachers who appear to be…fighting to the death? In the girls’ bathroom? During the Homecoming Dance? Yep. Her perpetual busyness and obsession with perfection seem directly related. Those of us who are second children might be perplexed by Harper’s I can do everything and do it well attitude, until we learn that she lost her older sister to a drunken car crash. This is also Harper’s year to participate in the Cotillion, a debutant ball. Harper is your classic overachiever: president of the Student Government Association, head cheerleader, Future Business Leader of America, and in possession of a seriously cute boyfriend. Rebel Belle is the story of the fall of Harper Jane Price’s junior year in high school. If you ever have the opportunity to see her in person, though, I highly recommend! Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins (Author) (545) Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. I was so excited to find this available as a eARC, and so far ahead of the publication date! Rachel Hawkins is one of my favorite YA authors, and not just because she’s hysterically funny both in person and on Twitter. 5/12/2023 0 Comments Il bosco dei ricordi by Sam LloydThe storyline revolves around 12 year old Elijah who has lived in Memory Wood for a very long time and 13 year old chess champion Elissa. On the face of it, this appears to be just another abductor/abductee story, but actually, it comes with a terrific twist, in this debut novel from Sam Lloyd. The Pargiters was Woolf’s original title for the novel, and it fits-the book spans years (the sections are divided by date ranges until the last section, titled “the present moment”), but these are specific years, for specific people, in a specific place. Like the people it follows, it plods along elegantly. Dalloway, less poetic grandeur than The Waves. The Years is quieter, more subdued, and contains less flash and drama than Mrs. The question of how women of relative privilege are to live is at stake in both Girls and The Years.Ītching the first few episodes of the third season of Girls the other night, it occurred to me that Virginia Woolf’s last novel, The Years, has a few similarities to the much-debated HBO show. Do you think it’s reckless of her to pursue the man despite the Sheriff’s direct orders to the contrary? What would you have done in her place? What other “rules” does Constance break (or bend) in her life?ĥ. Sheriff Heath goes to great pains to keep Constance’s name out of the papers and keep her from public shame over losing von Matthesius. Those who don’t, he asserts, are called “outlaws.” Do you think Constance is an outlaw according to this definition? What power do titles and labels really have-can one still embody a role without “officially” owning its label?Ĥ. “Deputies follow the orders given to them by the sheriff,” says Sheriff Heath (p240).
